I’m sure I have a lot of friends and family who are wondering about our expedition to Alpamayo, so I figured I would give a quick update. Unfortunately, we came very close, but could not make the summit. We overcame many challenges, and hauled probably 300 lbs of gear up 8,000 ft over several days. At high camp (pictured, 18,300 ft), both Eric and Branden (my climbing partners) began to develop signs of Acute Mountain Sickness. We tried to acclimatize, but during our final attempt for the summit, Eric began to present symptoms of HAPE (High Altitude Pulmenary Edema), which can be life-threatening. We had to get down immediately. Currently, Eric is still recovering, but doing well. We are heartbroken about our inability to summit, but it has been an amazing journey nevertheless.
